What Is Reiki?
Reiki literally means "life force energy" and is a Japanese natural healing system.
Everyone has the ability to channel this energy for healing themselves and others.
Reiki is now available in NHS hospitals and hospices and is recognised for bringing a deep sense of wellbeing and often pain relief to the person receiving it.
What to expect:
During a Reiki session a client lies fully clothed on a treatment table or sits in a chair, whatever is most comfortable. Usually if lying down and if it is comfortable for the client, they will start by lying on their back and half way through turn over so they are lying on their front. The practitioner places their hands on particular parts of the body, or just above the body. In some cases a sensation of heat or cold is felt from the practitioner's hands, but each person experiences and responds differently. Sometimes the client feels a deep sense of calm and relaxation, others can feel tingling in their body, and some have an emotional response.
Throughout the experience the client is encouraged to relax, focus on breathing or drift into a sleep state.
Alexandra's experience:
Alexandra has been practising energy healing for as long as she can remember. When she was a child, as young as 5 years old, she remembers experiencing extreme heat from her hands which had a soothing effect when placed on the body. Even when she was little family members would ask her to place her hands on their head if they had a headache or other pain. As she grew up to adulthood, friends, colleagues and family members regularly asked her to help them with pain and discomfort by placing her hands on the area causing the trouble. They would often say that if they needed to feel a sensation of heat on their body, her hands would be very hot, and if they needed to feel coolness, likewise her hands would give a cold sensation, adjusting as they went along, giving a soothing sensation and relief from discomfort and pain.
Alexandra finally decided she wanted to offer this as a treatment on a professional basis, and trained as a Reiki Master.
